The HSE is stepping in to help residents of a nursing home which is closing down in Belgooly to find suitable accommodation.
In August Aperee Living told families of residents at the home that they would have six months to find new accommodation but a recent HIQA report raised concerns about the residents finances and fire safety issues at the home.
The nursing home must now close on the 24th of October unless Aperee Living appeal HIQA's decision to cancel their registration. The HSE say they will operate the centre until residents find new accommodation if that happens.
Speaking to RedFM News West Cork TD Christopher O'Sullivan says it's inevitable that the HSE will take over the nursing home after an upcoming court hearing:
"They've issued the section 51 which means the intend to take in charge at the nursing home, that has been rejected by the owners of Aperee is my understanding. But it's inevitable that they will go in and take in charge. There will be a court hearing and the HSE will have to get a court order. That will happen on Friday. And it's expected, thus the HSE will be in there taking charge of the nursing home by Friday."
