Human mummifed remains which were in Cork have been returned to Cairo in Egypt.
The 2 thousand year old mummy arrived at University College Cork around 100 years ago.
Archaeologists at UCC worked to preserve the mummified remains and worked with Egyptian authorities to return the mummy to Cairo last Friday.
Speaking to RedFM News, Adjunct Professor at University College Cork, John Fitzgerald who was involved in the project, explains how the mummy came to Cork:
"The African missions were based in black rock in Cork at the time, and one of the priests there was in Cairo, and he bought a set were based in Blackrock in Cork at the time, and one of the priests there was in Cairo, and he bought a set of Egyptian classical objects which you could do at that time. And when he arrived back to Cork, the sarcophagus and the mummy were donated to the University."
