Students will be wearing the familiar yellow jackets to raise funds and awareness of the isolation felt by many vulnerable elderly people.

The charity has been caring for the elderly in the region for over 50 years and currently houses 127 elderly and vulnerable people around Cork.

All proceeds collected will be used to support that work.

Speaking to RedFM News, 5th year student at Presentation Brothers College- and Chair of the charity- Ronan McAuliffe explains the thinking behind this years’ collection:

"It's really to raise awareness amongst young people that, you know, it could be the person down the road, it could be your grandparents, it could be just someone you know that could be isolated. So our slogan is "Say Hello to Someone You Know", and it's really just about saying hello to people, you know, "Hello, can I help you with anything?" and just simple things that brighten people's day, that brighten up people's lives. Those things can make a big impact."
