The IDA is confident that the 500 people facing redundancy from two Cork tech firms will pick up other work as they are highly skilled and sought after
Cork Solidarity TD Mick Barry raised concerns at a meeting of the Oireachtas Enterprise Trade and Employment Committee which was attended by the new IDA chairman Fergal O'Rourke
364 jobs are expected to go at VMWare in Ballincollig and 136 job losses are on the cards at Blizzard in Blackpool
Fergal O'Rourke told the Committee that the IDA will support these workers
"Companies will give the IDA an early warning that this is happening and the IDA will then engage with them first of all to see can they be redeployed elsewhere and they'll work very constructively to see how many we can work with you to try and help and preserve. We also then working across the with Enterprise Ireland and across with the other companies"
