The future of sustainable construction is in safe hands as Cygnum, one of Ireland’s largest timber frame manufacturers, presents the inaugural awards to three outstanding student projects at Munster Technology University.
This comes as Cygnum announce a three-year sponsorship agreement with MTU for the awards.
Those awarded top prizes for their projects in timberwork include:
- Aideen Buckley - Civil Engineering Department
- Cathal Fitzpatrick - Architectural Department
- Eoin Cahill - Construction Department
Speaking on the awards, Heber McMahon, Director of Sales at Cygnum said, “Building with timber reduces the carbon footprint from house construction by 60%. It is the quickest and easiest way for Ireland to tackle its carbon emissions from construction and, in the process, it will enable a dramatic increase in housing output.
"The work that has been produced today is a signifier of the budding talent being produced here at MTU. It is of great importance to encourage students to expand students knowledge of timber design and construction, to help fuel the future of Ireland’s timber frame industry.”
