The number of adults living with parents while they wait for social housing in Cork has doubled in less than a decade.
Cork Simon published their Home Truths paper today after it saw an increase in young adults coming to the charity for help after relationship breakdowns while living in their parents home.
The figures of people who qualify for social housing but are still living with parents increased from 12 percent in 2013 to 24 percent in 2022.
Sophie Johnston from Cork Simon says the housing crisis is having a severe impact on young adults:
"Alternative housing options aren't there for them, they're on social housing waiting lists, and having to live at home while they wait. And having to wait is a growing feature in the lives of younger adults in Cork and across Ireland, waiting for prices to drop, waiting for supply to increase, waiting for social housing, waiting..."
