The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation say frontline healthcare workers at hospitals in Cork are under 'extreme pressure' due to overcrowding.
The union is calling on the HSE to work with them after raising concern that some nurses are ready to walk out of their jobs due to burn-out.
Management at Cork University Hospital have repeatedly urged people to explore all available options before turning up at the Emergency Department over the past few weeks.
The INMO is now calling for a review of how hospitals deal with overcrowding following an Emergency Department Taskforce meeting at the weekend.
