The INMO says the HSE needs to look at nursing home care to help ease increased trolley figures in Cork Hospitals.
They say private nursing homes closures is contributing to the abnormally high trolley figures with 60 delayed discharges in Cork hospitals reported earlier this week.
Patients finished inpatient hospital care are occupying hospital beds due to a scarcity of nursing home beds.
Speaking to RedFM News, Colm Porter from the INMO, says the HSE need to examine the issue:
"It kinds just shows that if you are reliant on private nursing homes to provide this care if the markets or whatnot change for whatever reason, those nursing home providers will exit the market. So what really has to be done is that the HSE needs to take a longer term look as care in those kinds of settings."
