The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is warning the lack of affordable accommodation is continuing to force frontline staff to leave the country.
Representatives from the union were among over one thousand people who took part in a ‘Raise the Roof’ housing march and rally in the City this afternoon.
The organisers of the march say billion euro surpluses should be used to increase the country’s affordable housing stock and say the government has failed to properly address the housing and homeless crisis.
Speaking to RedFM News, Mary Rose Carroll from the INMO says their members are finding it very tough:
"An already stressful job is made absolutely impossible for them. The difficulty is, when they're looking at it, and they look at the finances of it, having being raised here and educated here, now they're considering going abroad because the reality is they don't see a future for themselves here. That is just so disappointing, considering we've invested so much for them in their training and in their education. What they're saying is, the best thing for us to leave the country".
