An inquest has heard that a young crew member who fell off a ladder on board a fishing vessel died instantly.

29-year-old Des Hurley from Kinsale lost his balance on a family owned vessel while fishing at the Porcupine Bank off the south west coast last December.

The Coroner’s Court in Bantry heard that Des sustained a neck injury and suffered cardio respiratory failure and his family heard that his death had occurred as a result of “extreme bad luck.”
