The inquest into the deaths of three brothers in North Cork has heard how one of the men's daughter's discovered the body of her father on the night the men died.Willie, Paddy and Johnny Hennessy were found dead at the family farm in Curraghgorm outside Mitchelstown in a suspected murder suicide on the 25th of February 2021.Several members of the men's families are attending today's inquest in Mallow.Dr Margaret Bolster gave evidence that Willie and Paddy Hennessy died of severe traumatic brain injuries caused by the blunt end of an axe. The Asistant state Pathologist told the court that the injuries are consistent with multiple severe blows to the head. Both men showed signs of defensive wounds.
She also said Johnny Hennesy who was later found in the nearby River Funcheon had died due to drowning. The men's sister Breda O'Reilly said Johnny phoned her and her husband Ned on the evening of the incident.Johnny was very upset and stressed and said to Ned "I'm in trouble, I'm in trouble. Can you come over?" Ned phoned Mitchelstown Garda Station to explain the situation. Garda Tracey Howard then phoned Johnny Hennessy who said he didn't need the Gardaí anymore as the matter had been dealt with. He joked that at their ages "they should know better". Paddy's daughter Elaine and his ex wife Stephanie went to Curraghgorm later that evening and discovered Paddy's body in the yard. They knew immediately due to his injuries and the amount of blood that Paddy was dead. They phone the Emergency services and the area was sealed off. The inquest continues.
