Emergency services rushed to the scene at Railway Street at around 9:30pm last night
The woman in her 30s was brought to Cork University Hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries.
The scene was preserved and examined by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit, while uniformed Gardaí gathered CCTV footage.
Gardaí say no arrests have been made and are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Kent Railway Station, Railway Street, Alfred Street and Anderson's Quay between 8pm and 10pm to contact them at Mayfield Garda Station on 021- 455 85 10.
They are particularly keen to speak to any road users with dash cam footage of the area.
