Ireland’s increasing life expectancy is putting pressure on GP’s.
The Irish College of General Practitioners says there’s a shortage of GP’s in Cork and Kerry.
Ireland’s life expectancy is currently 82 years of age – the highest in Europe.
Speaking to RedFM News, Blackpool based GP Dr. John Sheehan says more GP’s are needed as life expectancy increases:
"Preventing complications such as diabetes and heart disease and things is great too but they all take time for doctors and nurses, we need more man power. So it is a positive story but we need increased capacity to be able to deal with some of these challenges that aren't going to go away but increase as we live longer."
