The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is appealing for companies to consider organising a blood donation clinic in the workplace.
Soldiers, members of the Naval Service and prison officers are attending a donation clinic at Collins Barracks in Cork this afternoon ahead of the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Demand for blood usually spikes during Bank Holidays, while donations often drop during the summer months.
Speaking to RedFM news. Julianne Kelly from the IBTS is asking large companies and community groups to contact them:
"So it's not every workplace that has a suitable area for us to set up a clinic, but where they do, we can come in and set up a clinic and we asked them, you know, they would encourage staff to attend. We have a clinic, coming up for work blood donor day, which falls on the 14th of June every year. It's a day to thank our regular donors, but it's also a day where we encourage people to come forward to donate for the first time".
