The Climate Action Plan has set a target of between a 22 and 30% reduction in total emissions for the sector.
Farmers have raised concerns that the sector has been unfairly targeted due to the size of the industry in Ireland. Speaking to RedFM News, Cork dairy farmer and Munster Chair of the IFA Harold Kingston says there were some positives in the announcement:"In terms of feeling better, I prefer I had a little bit more detail because there's nothing extra in this compared to what was leaked a couple of weeks ago. There's zero plan here yet. We don't know how we're going to actually deliver this. It is good to hear the Taoiseach talking about the need to continue to produce food and to need to focus on reducing emissions rather than reducing production. But right now there's zero plan in this."
