The closure of Cork Airport and winter months will affect Cork hotels.

That's according to the Irish Hotels Federation who are calling on the government to extend supports to help with the 5.3 billion euro hit to Irish Hotel Revenue as a result of Covid-19.

With the summer over, the sector is entering an uncertain nine months as booking levels fall sharply in the absence of overseas visitors which would normally sustain the sector during the off-peak season.

Speaking to RedFM News Fergal Harte, General Manager & Chair of the Irish Hotels Federation Cork Branch said the lack of inbound travel will affect hotels.

"Here in Cork the airport is closed for the next three months or so, and international travel is a concern for us.

"We expect domestic travellers may start to return to some of the sun destinations, and we won't see that level of inbound travel coming into Ireland until next year, and probably well into next year into the summer."
