The union says their members are dealing with abuse, physical violence and constant harassment
The National Bus and Rail Union says staff in customer services are experiencing hellish conditions and female members have been threatened with sexual assault.
A letter detailing staff experiences has been sent to management and politicians.
General Secretary Dermot O'Leary says the company needs to protect workers against thuggery, that he says has gone beyond a tipping point:
"There's been antisocial behaviour I suppose on some lines that will be classed in some quarters as low grade stone throwing and you know graffiti and just boisterous general you know unruly behaviour on stations. That's a concern of itself but certainly, in terms of some of the more serious stuff out there on main lines, Cork, Dublin, in particular, but not exclusively, of course, there's the Sligo line, all of the lines with this problem."
