The Irish Red Cross is appealing for new volunteers in Cork.
The charity is reporting that the equivalent of 30 years of volunteer time has been spent on family and community supports since the onset of the pandemic.
As part of these supports, volunteers visit the elderly, as well as isolated and vulnerable households - especially in rural areas.
Furthermore, the charity has seen a major surge in demands on its Ambulance Service with units making nearly 1,000 patient transfers since March 2020 for non-emergency treatments like chemotherapy, dialysis, GP and dental appointments.
