Irish Water have announced that upgrade works have began on the upgrade of Jones Bridge Water Treatment Plant in Clonakilty.
This step will provide the town with a more reliable water supply, and will benefit over 16,000 customers.
As part of the upgrade, Irish Water will work on several sections of the treatment plant and install a new raw water monitoring system, new flocculation tanks, upgrade the clarification and filtration processes as well as upgrading the sludge infrastructure.
The works are expected to be complete by early 2025.
Speaking about the project, Regional Infrastructure Delivery Lead for Irish Water, Ian O'Neill said:
"The upgrade works carried out as part of this project will ensure the continued delivery of safe, clean drinking water to residents and businesses in the surrounding area. We look forward to working with the local community as we continue to invest in the town's future."
