Irish Water have announced plans for a €6.8 million wastewater treatment plant in Inchigeelagh.
The project will stop the discharging of untreated wastewater in to the River Lee and will take around 14 months to complete when construction starts.
The company says the plans have been sized to accommodate future population growth in the region.
Four new wastewater facilities are also planned for Ballineen/Enniskean, Belgooley, Ballinspittle and Castlemagner.
It follows the announcement of projects in Killumney and Killeens already this year.
