Irish Water are carrying out a review of the Kinsale waste-water treatment plant to address a foul odour.
The EPA issued a report at the start of August which recommended Irish Water address the odour as an "immediate and urgent priority."
The report noted an open man hole at the top of a holding tank as being the cause of the odour and also questioned the plants ability to manage its intake, especially during the summer.
In a statement issued to RedFM News, Irish Water say the current population equivalent load on the plant does not exceed the capacity of the plant.
The utility also said they are currently in talks with a contractor regarding works to address the odour and other issues.
