Dramatic footage appeared on social media yesterday evening of significant flooding on Kent bridge in the town.
Crews from Irish Water and Cork County Council, were alerted and they closed off the flow of water and made the area safe.
In a statement issued to RedFM News Irish Water say the repairs are complex due to their location and that works need to be carefully carried out.
Repairs began this morning with an extensive traffic management plan in place.
Irish Water say on average it takes up to three hours to restore normal supply to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.
