The ISPCC is reminding exam students across Cork that Childline can act as listening ear for those feel anxious ahead of the State Exams.

The Leaving and Junior Cert exams will begin on June 7th and the ISPCC says they are already experiencing a surge in demand for their services with many students contacting their helpline.

Victoria Howson from the ISPCC says for some students the pressure of the exams can trigger anxiety leaving them struggling to study in these weeks leading up to the exam start date.

Speaking to RedFM News Victoria Howson says they can provide a listening ear to any student feeling overwhelmed:

"We are seeing a spike in anxiety. Now this can be normal in times of crisis as well. We're always going to have that. Anxiety can be good. It can be a motivator. But it can also be something that can paralyse you unfortunately. You literally can't study and you're being told then by your parents, caregivers and teachers that you have to, about how important it is, and that pressure can mount. So yes, definitely this time of the year, that is a primary concern for young people".
