The charity says many young people found lockdown very difficult and are experienced isolation and loneliness, especially those living with an adult who abuses alcohol or drugs.

Volunteer call takers expect this month to be one of their busiest ever, with up to 2,000 call a day expected at times.

Megan Sarl has been a volunteer with Childline since 2012…

She told RedFM News about how children can access 24/7 support this Christmas:

"We have an online service, a text service and a listening service so  some children don't feel safe at home to talk. So we have a text service so children can get onto us on 50101 by sending a text and that's free or they can go on www.childline.ie and there's a web service there that's  confidential for them to get in contact with us.  And the Childline phone number is 1800 66 66 66"
