Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been banned from entering Cork city.

Cllr Peter Horgan called for Israel's Prime Minister, President, all members of the government and all ambassadors to be banned from setting foot in the city.

It comes amid increasing international pressure on Israel to halt its bombing of Gaza and Lebanon which has reportedly killed over 40,000 people.

Speaking to RedFM News, Cllr Peter Horgan says last night's council vote could act as the start of a national and international campaign:

"It requires cities like cork banning people like Benjamin Netanyah  from entering our city. And if it inspires other cities to follow suit in Ireland and perhaps across Europe and across the world, then maybe this can be the starting point of the people of Israel realizing that their leaders are simply walking them down a dark, dark alley."
