Senator Jerry Buttimer has announced that he will stand for election in the freshly expanded Cork South Central constituency
South Central and North Central are reverting back to five seaters from four seaters as part of a national change to Dáil constituencies due to a rise in population
Mallow transfers from Cork East to Cork North Central with about 14,408 people while 20,000 people come into the constituency from Ballincollig.
While 22,000 people from the city transfer from North Central to South Central
5,600 people in around Buttevant and Doneraile transfer from Cork East into Cork North West
It sets up big battles in Cork North and South Central as a number of parties fight for two seats in each.
Speaking to RedFM News Jerry Buttimer announced his intention to stand in South Central
"It will be my intention to seek a nomination at the Fine Gael convention whenever that happens, because it is important that in the constituency that the four seats that were and not in the eastern half that we now have an opportunity to have a voice in the southwest in the Bishopstown area and I will be offering the Fine Gael party first of all, and then after that the people of Cork South Central an opportunity to have their say in the next election"
