The 6 man jury found that Paddy and Willie Hennessy were unlawfully killed and that their brother Johnny then took his own life at the family farm in Curraghgorm outside Mitchelstown on the 25th of February last.

The foreman also made two recommendations following the verdicts.

The first recommendation is that the Minister for Health review and enhance supports for people dealing with mental health issues in rural and urban Ireland.

The second recommendation is that the role of community Gardaí be reviewed in relation to domestic incidents, with consideration given to engaging directly with people in distress.

Assistant state Pathologist Margaret Bolster told the Coroner's Court that Paddy and Willie died of a severe traumatic brain injury consistent with multiple blows from an axe.

Johnny was later found drowned in the nearby River Funcheon.

The Court also heard there was some friction around 7 weeks before the incident after Johnny was reluctant to return some customers from his timber cutting business to Paddy after Paddy recovered from a stroke.

The inquest heard evidence that the brother's had always gotten on well and their deaths had shocked their family and friends
