Staff from Enable Ireland's Lavanagh Centre are protesting outside the centre today in a row over pay.
The groups adult services centre at East Gate Drive in Little Island and Carrigaline will be closed due to the protest, while the Lavanagh Centre will remain open with 'considerable disruption' to services and appointments.
The charity says they fully support staff demands regarding pay and say the alignment of pay scales with HSE staff is needed to recruit and retain employees.
A statement from Enable Ireland goes on to say that it cannot afford to pay an additional €1.3 million a year to increase pay for staff and that they will not be able to do so in the future without more funding from the government.
Speaking to RedFM News, Suzanne Griffin from SIPTU says staff do not want to be out protesting today and says the government should place a higher value on the community and disability services sector.
"This is a last resort for our members. We have been chasing this since 2008, with little or no engagement from the Government, and again I'll reiterate - little or no engagement is the operative phrase there.
"They just do not value the aspect of caring and the respect that should be given to our members, doing the valuable job that they do.
"The ethos and the value and the sense of security that should be afforded to our vulnerable and our needy just isn't there any more."
