A life-sized statue has been unveiled in Caheragh in West Cork to honour a pioneer of cancer research.
The late Professor Gerry O'Sullivan, was a highly acclaimed surgeon, scientist and cancer researcher.
He was also the founder of the Cork Cancer Research Centre and the national charity Breakthrough Cancer Research.
The unveiling coincides with National Cancer Survivors Day today.
The statue was unveiled by the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Gillian Coughlan, Professor O'Sullivan's widow Breda, his family and Professor Luke O'Neill.
They were also joined by friends, family, neighbours and colleagues from all over country and as far as the USA.
