A Ukrainian man living in Cork says he dreads checking his phone each days as he fears the worst for his family and elderly parents who are refusing to leave their home

Roman Polstiviy says his parents are living in Central Ukraine which hasn't seen the worst of the war however he says this morning in home town there was an air strike attack on the local airport

He says his parents had to seek refuge in the cellar next to their home fearing for their lives

Roman shared his fears with RedFM News as Ukraine's president says Russia suffered the largest loss to its armed forces in decades, as it continues its invasion of his country.

In his latest speech - Volodymyr Zelenskyy claims 31 battalion tactical groups have been 'rendered incapable of fighting.'

Meanwhile officials in Mariupol say a mosque - which was sheltering dozens of people - has been hit by Russian shelling.

There's been no update on casualties yet, but it's understood children were hiding inside.

The governments of two Ukrainian regions have released separate statements - accusing the Russians of continuing to shell despite supposed ceasefires.

Back in Cork Roman Polstiviy says he just wants the war to end and he old RedFM News that his parents are determined to stay despite his appeals to them to come to Cork
