Local business owners in Kinsale are up in arms about the lack of communication surrounding the demolition yesterday of the public toilets in the town
The toilets are about 40 years old and have long been in a bad state of repair
Over 4 years ago the County Council committed to replacing them and temporary toilets were to be installed while the replacement works were being conducted
However the toilets were demolished yesterday leaving the town with just one paid public toilet beside the car park
Local Green party representative Marc O'Riain says temporary toilets were meant to be in place at the end of March which would facilitate the demolition of the public toilet block however this has yet to happen
Speaking to RedFM News he says there has been little consultation with locals on the matter from the Council and as far as he is aware no planning has been lodged as yet for any new toilet block
"You have the Farmers Market on Wednesday, you know where people are going from the Farmers Market, they depend on the toilets, as well as people waiting for the 226 bus, people out walking, they all depend on the public toilets. We certainly welcome the fact that they're going to be replaced but there's no communication going on from the Council again. There's a massive amount of construction going on in the town with the library building and now you have a lot of demolition traffic right across from Koko's which is very difficult and I really feel for the businesses within the town and it is a ridiculous time of the year to be doing this"
