Locals and community groups in Ballincollig will gather outside the town's fire station this hour to call for it to be re-opened with a full-time crew.
Efforts to recruit for a retained fire service have failed and crews at Anglesea Street have been providing emergency cover for the area.
Firefighters in the city centre say the current arrangement has resulted in resources being spread too thinly and say crews are worried for their own safety.
They have been demonstrating outside the fire station on Anglesea Street before their shifts for the past three weeks and say they are willing to escalate their action.
Speaking to RedFM News, Ballincollig campaigner Mags McKenna says the issue was raised at Monday's Council meeting where a motion to reopen the station with a full-time crew was voted on by councillors:
"It's very refreshing to see the counsellors are on the same page as us. That is very refreshing. I hope to see them here Friday evening as well. But a motion is only a motion. You can put in all the motions you like, but it still has to go up the chain. So somebody needs to change it now, do something, and just give us a full-time service. Listen to us, listen to the Cork City fire brigade, listen to the counsellors. It needs to change. Somebody in there needs to make the decision".
