Locals in Millstreet have placed a bid to buy the towns only hotel - which is in talks to become accommodation for refugees.

The Wallis Arms hotel closed suddenly and went up for sale in June and the building is now currently under consideration to house international protection applicants.

Chairperson of the Millstreet community council, Aine Collins, says the small town already has around 800 beds being used for refugees

Speaking to RedFM news, she says the town has led the way in terms of integration :

"The community has all come together, it has worked together tirelessly, to make it home for many people and many families. There has never been an issue. We're a blueprint for how to do it if you want to look at it like that. Our schools have 28 different nationalities, We're a small community. We've two national schools and one secondary school. All of them are full, and they are at capacity".
