Ambulance personnel are increasingly responding to non emergency calls due to the reduced SouthDoc hours in North Cork
The out of hours GP service only operates until 9pm meaning people have no option but to dial 999
North Cork councillor Deirdre O'Brien says the ambulance service in the region is too stretched and as a result lives are being put at risk
She has proposed a motion calling for a probe into the workings of the Ambulance Service by the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly
Speaking to RedFM News she is calling for urgent Government investment in the ambulance service
"So the ambulance service are finding that they're attending to calls that are not emergency or not life threatening. And this is taking up the service as they are bringing them to the A&E and then the emergency departments are getting clogged up, and all this could be resolved locally, if you could see local GP"
