1200 renters in the Carrigaline, Ballygarvan, and Crosshaven are outside the protection of a Rent Pressure Zone meaning renters in these areas can face whatever rent increase the landlord decides
In responses to a parliamentary question the Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien says there are no developments in relation to the loophole and he has no plans to amend the Rent Pressure Zone designation criteria at this time
The Minister added that his Department and the Residential Tenancies Board keep the operation of the Acts under constant review, with a view to introducing any necessary legal change
The Housing Department says any matter that need to be addressed will be dealt with as part of the new Residential Tenancies legislation which is currently being drawn up and due to be published in the Autumn
