Lord Mayor Cllr Colm Kelleher was speaking at the site at one of the three controversial CityTrees which, together with two more 'trees' on Grand Parade will operate on Patrick Street for 12 months
The five trees cost €350,000 for fabrication, delivery, installation and maintenance for a year. The Council says the ongoing maintenance per year would be less than €20,000 per year.
The City Council says the so-called 'Robot Trees' will remove fine particles of polution from the air, however the plan has been heavily criticised due to the cost, with UCC Atmospheric Scientist Dean Venables describing it as a waste of money.
