Cllr Colm Kelleher was speaking at the launch of a new mobile unit to help people with drug and alcohol addictions as well as sexual health matters
The unit will travel to all areas of Cork and Kerry to offer one on one support and advice to people.
Cllr Kelleher says his family has first hand experience of addiction as his brother Don is in recovery from heroin addiction.
Speaking to RedFM News, the Lord Mayor says the new mobile unit has his full support:
"Whether it be mental health issues, or sexual health issues, or addiction issues, or anything of that matter, the first precipice an individual has to pass is acceptance themselves. And an initiative like this, if it makes it that bit easier to get out and talk about it, anything like that, is brilliant. And as I said, on behalf of the City and on behalf of myself personally, I'm delighted to be here this morning to support this initiative."
