The Lord Mayor is appealing to anyone who witnessed a shooting in the city to come forward.
It comes after a 42 year old man was shot in the Wilton Manor area on Friday morning.
The man's condition is no longer life threatening but Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have seen a silver saloon car in the Summerstown Drive, Summerstown Road, Wilton Court and Wilton Manor areas between 4:45 and 5.45am on Friday to make contact with them.
Speaking to RedFM News, Lord Mayor of the City and Councillor Deirdre Forde says that people who come forward can be assured of confidentiality.
"Locals would be afraid of reprisals, and that's acceptable - who among us would be brave enough to put their head above the parapet?
"But if we want a society that is safe and secure, we have to be brave and take a risk, and speak frankly to the Gardai confidentially.
"I would urge people to do that."
