The low temperatures are adding to the pressure already faced by charities such as Cork Simon as they struggle to help the city's homeless.
The charity has taken the decision not to ask service users to leave during the day, so they can stay warm during the bitter cold day time temperatures.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork Simon's Paul Sheehan says temporary solutions such as their night light service has been forced to become a long-term sticking plaster to deal with demand:
"The service was introduced in the winter of 2017, because there was such pressure on beds, we thought it would be temporary but it's been insane. It's not ideal, but you know, the beds available and I'd say beds, their mattresses on the floor become available at 11 o'clock at night, because they're in our day service. We have to ask people to leave at eight in the morning to stay service opens at nine right now we're making sure people can stay indoors around the clock."
