The digital hub in Skibbereen says they have seen a large increase in the number of people looking for a remote working space since the return of people to the office last Monday.
The debate about whether remote working boosts or hinders productivity has been ongoing throughout the pandemic.
Trade union Forsa says productivity has been maintained or improved and have welcomed a plan for legislation to be introduced to give employees the right to request to be allowed work remotely.
Speaking to RedFM News, startup and entrepreneur manager at the Ludgate Hub Fiona Ryan outlines why people are keen to work from Skibbereen:
"What I'm hearing on the ground is it's the mixture; the ability to be able to be able to go to Lough Hyne to be able to go for their swims and just experience country living, to be able to go for their walks. Productivity has not decreased, so there's no reason why this can't continue. What we see happening is maybe a hybrid approach, you'll get the people who are going into the office one or two days a week to have their team meeting, then they're working remotely enjoying the rural life and the slower pace of life, but still delivering."
