Plans for the road include a combination of the three originally proposed routes between the two cities, with upgrades to sections of the current N20 as well as new dual carriageways.
The plans also include the construction of one of the country's longest greenways while the towns of Mallow, Charleville, Buttevant and New Twopothouse are also set to be bypassed as part of the
€1.4 billion project
Speaking to RedFM News, Dee Hosford from the 'No to Navy' group says they are very relieved but mindful that the plans are going to impact other people along the route:
"I'm absolutely heartbroken for the people that it does affect because we've lived under that uncertainty for the last 18 months so I can only imagine what they're feeling now going forward. They do have a long process. I do know that all those landowners and homeowners that are affected will get a letter tomorrow from the project team saying that their property is going to be affected and they will start to enter the consultation process with the project team. I feel for them, I really do because it is a very uncertain time."
