That's according to Cork TD Sean Sherlock who has called for the rapid expansion of a paramedic treatment pilot scheme and for the fast tracking of the building works at Mallow in order to relieve the trolley crisis at CUH and the Mercy University Hospitals in particular
Deputy Sherlock believes that by opening beds at Mallow General trolley numbers could be reduced and kept manageable along with the rotation of more medical consultants out from CUH to deal with winter related illnesses.
He says the over-dependence on tertiary hospitals like CUH to deal with everything is proving futile, when level two hospitals such as Mallow General could and should be triaging more patients.
