A 29 year old man accused of stabbing a man in the neck with a broken bottle in the city centre has been denied bail.
Aaron Babbington of Churchfield Avenue in Churchfield appeared at Cork District Court today charged with assault causing harm to 32 year old Jason Butler at Grand Parade in the city on Wednesday evening.
Det Garda Patrick Russell alleged that the offence was seen by several members of the public including children and said Gardaí were objecting to bail.
He alleged that the accused was identifiable on CCTV at the incident and said that Babbington has a serious alcohol addiction and was a “danger to himself and other members of the public.”
The court heard that the victim has sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Babbington was arrested close to the scene of the incident shortly after the alarm was raised.
Judge Olan Kelleher said it was a ‘serious matter’ and remanded Babbington in custody until his next appearance on the 22nd of June.
