The man who cannot be named for legal reasons appeared at Cork District Court today via video link.
The incident happened on the 28th of September when Gardaí attempted to stop the driver of a van in Mahon.
The driver rammed several Garda cars and drove the wrong way down the Mahon slip road onto the N40 in an attempt to escape.
Gardaí eventually brought the incident to a close with the use of a stinger device on Carr’s Hill.
Six children ranging from 5 months to 10 years old and their mother were all brought to Cork University Hospital. The court heard they were not injured during the incident but were very traumatised.
Garda Paul Dromey gave evidence last Friday that two Gardaí were also taken to CUH.
Judge Colm Roberts heard Gardaí objected to bail due to the seriousness of the charges, which include false imprisonment and breaching a protection order, and remanded the man in custody.
Today in court Judge Olann Kelleher further remanded him in prison for three weeks to allow for directions from the DPP.
Defence Council Frank Buttimer told the court that his client had filed an appeal to the High Court for Bail.
The accused is due to appear again on the 27th of October.
