Gardaí arrested the man on Grand Parade at around 4pm after he allegedly shouted racist abuse at a group of people.

A group of men intervened and the man stood in the doorway of a fast food outlet on the street and was heard shouting further abuse.

Gardaí arrived on the scene and arrested him.

He was detained at the Bridewell Garda Station and later released without charge.

Gardaí say they are preparing a file for the DPP in relation to the incident.
