32 year old Jason Butler who was originally from Midleton died at Cork University Hospital this afternoon.
Jason Butler was rushed to CUH in a critical condition following the incident close to Daunt Square in the city centre on Wednesday evening.
A man was arrested close to the scene shortly after the alarm was raised.
Garda Press confirmed that Jason Butler passed away from his injuries today. A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow.
29 year old Aaron Babbington of Churchfield Avenue in Churchfield appeared at Cork District Court earlier today charged with assault causing harm to Jason Butler.
Gardaí objected to bail and Babbington was remanded in custody until the 22nd of June.
