A man accused of attacking his sleeping wife with a claw hammer and boiling water has been remanded in custody.

63-year-old Noel Twomey of Carbery Grove, Knocknaheeny, Cork city appeared before Cork District Court via video link today.

Judge Mary Dorgan heard Noel Twomey was soaked in his wife’s blood and carrying a bloodstained hammer in a plastic bag after he flagged down a Garda car on the 15th of January.

Detective Garda Brian Murphy previously told the court that Twomey showed no remorse and never asked about the condition of his wife of almost 40 years, who was treated in intensive care.

Defence solicitor Shane Collins-Daly previously asked that the accused would get medical and psychiatric care while in prison.

Noel Twomey will appear before the court on the 6th of February for DPP directions.
