31-year-old Shane Casey, formerly of Great William O'Brien Street, Blackpool, Cork City appeared at Cork District Court today via video link from Cork Prison.
Shane Casey is charged with entering the house of a woman at Broad Lane, Great William O'Brien Street in Blackpool on June 15th in order to carry out an offence of assault causing harm to the woman.
He is also charged with damaging her home and causing criminal damage to the urn.
Garda Michael Abernathy previously told the court that Casey picked up an urn containing the woman's deceased partner's ashes and threw them across the room before punching her around four times in the face.
Shane Casey told Judge Olann Kelleher that he was suffering from mental health difficulties and was trying to better himself, but he vehemently denied the allegations.
Judge Kelleher remanded Casey in continuing custody until July 27th for DPP directions in the case.
Defence solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher previously asked that prison authorities be notified that his client had a prescription for anti-psychotic medication which should be given to him in prison.
