54 year old Helen Jones of Cahergal Avenue in Mayfield was found guilty of the murder of her brother Paul at his house on Bandon Road on the 4th of September 2019 at a sitting of the court yesterday.

Her former partner 43 year old Keith O'Hara was also handed a mandatory life sentence today.

The court had previously heard that Paul Jones was stabbed 25 times and that a row over the inheritance of a family home in Mayfield had resulted in a breakdown in the relationship between the siblings.

In a victim impact statement read out in court today, Paul's brother Liam said that nothing could have prepared him for the news of the "savage" murder of his older brother.

Another relative who asked not to be named said they never got the chance to say a proper goodbye to the victim because his casket had to be kept closed due to the severity of his injuries.

Mr Justice Michael McGrath described the attack as "senseless, violent and frenzied" and offered his condolences to Paul's family.
