A man in his 20s arrested in connection with an assault and attempted robbery incident that occurred on Sunday evening in Fermoy has been charged.
He is expected to appear before a special sitting of Fermoy District Court at 9.30am this morning.
The incident happened in the sports ground of the Loreto Convent at around 6pm on Sunday when a woman in her 50s was out walking her dog.
She was approached by a lone male who knocked her to the ground and sexually assaulted her before stealing some personal items belonging to the woman.
The man was disturbed by two other people out walking and he fled as they went to the assistance of the woman and notified gardai who were quickly on the scene.
